Anybody else doing this tomorrow?

I've signed up for the epic, but will be pleased to just get the standard level completed.

The weather looks better this year, last year it was absolutely horrendous.

Just me then, well it was bloody hard work, really hard work.

Over 3000ft of climbing, that's a lot for a tubby mountain bike rider.

I managed to do the standard, will aim for the Epic next year.

Blimey - that's hilly.
I live in the middle of the south downs and I really have to plan carefully to find more than 100ft/mile of climbing.
You did nearly 115!

Great work.

It's off road though! I commute that way some mornings, how did you find Barns Farm Lane?! wink

Blimey, that Barns Farm Hill section, I walked that by the looks of my Strava times, that was near to the end and my legs had gone by that point.

Yeah, that has to be one of the toughest climbs in the Downs I reckon. Did it one time in the middle ring; did the first section in the granny ring, and then on that short flat bit before it opens out I went into the middle ring and forgot to go back down!

1.2km @ 10%, maxing at 29.9% near the start. I'll have to go and find that one!

I did this, really enjoyed it but it was hard work. Seemed to be a bit of an uphill slog into the wind for 90% of it. Also had a problem with my back brakes dragging which added to the effort needed! Enjoyable day and at least the rain stayed away!

You'll probably waltz up it on your fixie! I think the worst bit is near the end; the lane/path goes across the worst of the slope and then turns right into it near the top. If there's a wind off the sea at that point, it's an absolute killer!
If you go to Washington, you can park near the pub, then over the old bridge over the A24. Take the right fork for about 200 m then turn left and cross what was the left fork and there you are at the bottom.

I was in the area on my road bike on Sunday, heading back from Amberley was awful into the wind.
