My bike has just been sent off to Trek as there is an issue with the bottom bracket - the actual frame where the bearing sits - there appears to be some wear which means there is play in the crank.

Reading online this seems to be a common issue, so I am hoping that they will resolve it.

However, it could be with them for weeks - just as the weather is turning!

I wouldn't get an expensive 2nd hand bike as I'd be aware of problems such as the problem my current bike has. However, I would like a cheapish bike around £200 and would be happy to get one second hand at this price.

Seen a few Specialised Allez around this.

Any suggestions for what I should be going for?

Seen loads on ebay recently of nice enough ones going for under £100 - £240 , I suspect when the weather improves they would be £250 - £400 ish, now is a good time to buy, in a months time less so!!

Seen some tidy old Giant OCRs, Orbea (not sure what model) and similiar go for 100-200£

Above links are finished auctions, but seem well looked after solid bikes for price, yeah tech has moved on , but not that much

I had a nice alu Wilier I bought and sold on Ebay, rode really nice and quicker on that bike than I am on much more expensive bikes Ive had since!

Alezs are ok, but are popular so prices are inflated a bit, compared to less well known competition

Quite like the idea of an aluminium bike too (leather than a carbon racer) if possible that I could attach panniers too as I'm always considering LEJOG but I suppose I'd buy a particular bike for that.

But open to most really
