Edco wheelset - what are your thoughts?

Hi,

I'm currently running Ultra 6800s and was looking to upgrade to Dura Ace C24. I'm looking for something light, durable and pretty much fit and forget with minimum maintenance - the DA's seem to fit the bill.

However, my LBS has suggested I look at Edco - he'll knock a £1300 wheelset down to around £800.

They're a pretty new brand and I can't see many reviews for them.

Has anyone any thoughts or experience?

Race team I know a few riders of well have all had positive words to say, and have been using them for the last 3 seasons.

I know nothing about their wheels but their monoblock cassette is a thing of beauty and only £150 - bargain!

Just to note that C24s use cup and cone bearings so will require a bit more care and maintenance than cartridge bearing hubs so not quite fit and forget, they're also not particularly wide in today's day and age at 20.8mm.

Ref. the wideness, that's what the LBS said too. And I like the idea of 35mm depth too, I wasn't looking for a full-in aero wheel so it seems a decent compromise.

Those are the wheels they'll do for £800 minus the wheel bag and tyres etc etc.

I know of a lad around here who races on Edcos, loves 'em. Raced in that Chorley GP race too.

I think they bought a lot of that particular wheel at the launch a few months ago and got a good discount. Though I'm happy to ask about others if there's one you're interested in.

Local bike shop is based in Derby.

PedalHeaven in Fleet have sold their 2016 wheels and are due more in, I expect Okgo is referring to riders in the PH RT who ride them.

Craig who owns the shop told me they had had no rim or hub issues with any wheel whilst racing/training, only one destroyed wheel during a crash.

If they have any 45mm Carbon wheels in Derby let me know.

I know the London cycle exchange place had two pairs of Edco wheels on sale.

Edco bave been going for donkey's years, they're not a new brand.

They were the first company to market (in the '90s) with a full road hydraulic groupset. It used Magura rim brakes.

I've seen the odd set come up on eBay.de, but they go for funny money.

I've bitten the bullet and they're being fitted tomorrow.

Ref. riding with Mercury club, I'm not local to the area, but I'm guessing you know the shop I'm buying from.
