sealant in inner tubes?

going to getting back into proper training and commuting to work.

been doing random days during the winter but my form has plainly dropped off.

want to make the bike ultra puncture resistant with out running Marathon Plus's

Yes I have a set of normal marathons on the way, but may switch to the supreme's later on.

Any one here use a sealant inside their inner tubes like Stans no tubes or Orange Seal?

I used to use slime and the Kevlar tape stuff you stick to the inside of the tyre on my mountain bike. With this setup I did plenty of miles on tow paths, cycle paths, muddy rocky stuff and didn't have one puncture. May have just been down to luck though! I used the preslimed tubes due to presta valves, one of the other bikes has shraider so filled these myself. Moved over to tubeless now though.

no never used it, seen it in a mates tube and it all dried out so looked useless and ruined the tube, I'm sure I have heard it adds quite a bit of weight

TBH I'd just run decent tyres, keep them in good condition and check the PSI every few days, not letting them too low

The above has given me very few punctures over the years and tbh its not too bad one every six months, as otherwise you forget how to do it quickly!

Panaracer Flataway tape is brilliant and doesn't weigh anything at all. 2 years puncture free on the SDW before going tubeless.

never heard of that stuff before, wish I have would gone for big apples in 50-622 instead of marathon greenguard if I had known.

In my experience, the slime 'heals' the puncture at about 50psi, but not at road bike pressures. So ok to get you home as it were..

I used Slime tubes on my mountain bike a few years back. Whilst I never got a puncture, they did still gradually lose air over time just like any other tube.

And that's when you discover their real forte! The slime is fking AMAZING at sealing up the bloody valve, so it's an utter nightmare to reinflate again!

I've never had the same issue with Stans sealant since shifting to running tubeless, so maybe some of that in inner tubes with removable cores would be a better bet, although I'd still go for decent tyre and not worry too much about it.

I've tried "Stans no tubes" in tubes at about 100 psi with 700c x 28 Continental GP4000 s2 tyres. No good, still got a flat in the rear tyre, and it squirted over the frame without sealing. Have just fitted Schwalbe Durano Plus 700c x 25 and new tubes, not expecting any more punctures, fingers crossed...

I've tried Joe's Yellow Gel - weighs a tonne, ruins the ride but worked on a set of 30mm Strada Biancas at lower pressure.

I've tried Schwalbe Marathon Plus Smart Guide - weighs a tonne, ruined the ride, didn't work, still had to go and rescue 'er indoors commuting home.

Then I started fitting Stans Rims and various combos of normal tyres and they're light, ride nice and stay up.

A pair of Grail, Iron Cross or Alpha (if you can find them) Rims are £120. If anyone's that stuck I'll build them for free - you might need new spokes though...

Sealant in tubes can work, but you really need tubes with a replaceable presta valve, otherwise the inside can get gunked up.
No Tubes and Joes both have a "race" version with bigger particles which is designed to fix bigger holes, which may work.

I'd imagine the downside is that it goes off sooner.
