Changing a single gear...
Discussion
I'm currently running 10 speed 12-30T cassette on my road bike, I need the 30T cassette as I often ride hills over 15% but, likewise, I often travel down a hill which always has me over 30mph, often 35+....
I was wondering whether I could get an 11-28 and just swap the 11T for the 12T? I find there's very little difference in ratio between 9th and 10th anyway, so having one that bit taller would be fine.
I'm guessing I wouldn't need to adjust the chain length for this? Anything that would prevent me doing this and from being a straight swap?
Cheers

You can't just swap cogs over on most cassettes (assuming it's Shimano) but you could just buy a 11-32 and stick that on instead. It depends on rear mech length and you might need another link or two in the chain though.
I'm running an ultegra cassette which isn't just 1 block of gears, aside the 1st 3 gears. The rest are individual... Hence why I can't see why I couldn't change just the last gear? I don't think they do 11-32 in 10 speed?

You can get a 11-32 in 10 speed for sure, either current Tiagra or old 105/Ultegra

It's not possible as confirmed unless you remove the 14t as confirmed in this thread http://www.bikeforums.net/bicycle-mechanics/277474... due to the different size of the cog, its width and how they sit together when assembled and different lock rings.
