Compatibility 8speed - 11speed campagnolo

Want to convert my old 8speed bike(campag) to 11speed (athena campag).
Have new 11speed shifters, rear deraillier, cassette and wheels.
The teeth spacing of chain is the same (between 8 and 11 speed)
But the teeth/chain thickness is thinner on the 11speed.
Local bike shop is saying that I should be able to use 8speed chainrings.
Chain does fit.
Has anyone used 8 speed chainrings with narrower 11 speed chain?
or will I need to change the chainrings to 11 speed.

It'll work fine, chainring spacing (I.e. Tooth to tooth) and thickness is the same across 8/9/10/11 speed Campag and in fact most it not all chainsets, hence you sometimes see a Shimano / Campag mish mash.
The difference in thickness of the 8 vs 11 speed chain is down to the joining plates giving an overall narrower chain but internal and tooth to tooth the same.
You couldn't run in vice versa tho as the 8 speed chain would probably not run through the cassette or rear mech.
Your new wheels take the new 11 speed cassette yeh? Because 8 to 9/10/11 speed won't work as the freehub body is longer on the latter so you need 9/10/11 specific wheels but it sounds like you have them.

Visually they looked ok to me, but was unsure if chainrings would have been too wide - but thanks for reassuring that they should be ok.
Not bought the wheels yet, intention is to get (Zonda) 11speed. They will then be interchangeable with my other bikes too.
