dhb R1.0 road shoes
Discussion
New to road cycling and I'm considering a first pair of road shoes for weekend rides and commuting to go with the Shimano SPD pedals I'm using. A bit of digging has led me to the dhb R1.0 road shoes. They seem pretty well reviewed and I'm considering picking up a pair, but a couple of questions first:
Will I notice much difference compared to my current footwear (old running shoes)?
Any experiences of dhb gear - I know it's Wiggle's own brand but don't know much more than that?
Any pressing reason to buy straight away? (Trying to justify more gear purchases to SWMBO.) They're currently £25, not sure if that's standard for those sorts of shoes?

If you are currently just wearing trainers, you'll see a huge difference. You can put down power without worrying your foot will slip off and your foot will always be in the correct position.
Just take time to try clipping and un-clipping on a quiet road to get used to it - it soon becomes second nature. Slacken off the spring tensions in the pedals to make the cleat engagement easier and then as you get more familiar, tighten it back up.

Are the pedals SPD (MTB style) or SPD-SL (road) ?
I think they're SPD pedals, as best I can tell they're Shimano PD-M520 pedals with SM-PD 22 adapters:http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-pd-m520-pedals/

Their not compatible I'm afraid. They are a 2 bolt fixing and the shoes use a 3 bolt system.
it's up to you which option you go down, different shoes, 2 bolt are commonly called mtb shoes, or new road specific pedals.
I used to commute in mtb shoes as they are easier to walk in as the soles are flat and the cleats recessed.

OP,
re. the great cleat debate, everyone will tell you that their choice is better, and the other mob are doing it wrong. IMO though, if you have a chance to take advice from someone that gets off their bike, walks normally to the cafe and grabs a brew, or the other chap that gets off the bike, minces over to the coffee like a man wearing high heels for the very first time whilst simultaneously having the turtles head, I know what I'd be doing.
Anyways, re. the R1.0, the SPD equivalent is M1.0.

I'll be honest, I used the 15 quid Aldi ones for about 3,000 miles and they we're reasonably OK. My 90 qui mavics are a teeny bit nicer, but they're not 4 times nicer.
On the flipside, having proper clippy shoes is a grillion times nicer than using flats. Once you get some, you'll never go back.

I tried some of the DHB shoes. I thought they were pretty poor. I found the sizing quite odd and quite frankly the quality was laughable. Looked like £20 Sports Direct specials.
I was quite disappointed as I have a lot of DHB kit and generally speaking its pretty good.
Ended up buying Shimanos instead. About £20 more expensive, but worth it.

Right, narrowed it down to the Shimano MT34 or the M065:

Really can't tell much difference between these two other than aesthetics. Similar weight (MT034 30g lighter), similar features...any idea which to go for? I'll be walking all of 10 yards to the shower more often than not when commuting so don't need any real off-road performance.
