Hi everyone

A couple of mates and myself are planning to do the Coast to Coast (West > East) in a day in August.

We're considering this route. Has anyone got any alternative suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
L'rs

Wrynose and Hardknot Passes a little further down and finishing through the North York moors would provide more elevation. Your middle section looks good but personally I'd rather do a different last 20 miles.

Ive done that route, in fact i live about 300 metres from part of the route and cycle some of it often.

We did it over three days but if you are fit i would say 2 days is better, the last 25 miles or so is basically downhill and easy. The worst bit is the climb at Garrigill.

If I did it again i would deviate from the route and take the road on the descent from Whinlatter towards Braithwaite/Keswick. The route goes on a fire track which ia a bit gravelly and dangerous.

Theres also the option of finishing in Sunderland instead too, you just take a different track at Consett. Its about the same distance/level of difficulty.

I've done the C2C route you posted and last year did the Way of the Roses route from Morecambe to Bridlington.

I enjoyed the Way of the Roses course more. Less crowded, not as hilly - apart from the big Settle hill. Quieter roads as well.

Depends what sort of weekend you want.

My mates have just done this route (or one close to it) 5000m in 3 days

Did this route from Seascale to Whitby in 2013, it's a bit longer than yours but seemed like a good route, also good to get Hardnott & Wrynose out of the way early!

Thanks for the replies thumbup

Will have a more detailed look at the Way of the Roses route. Being further south the journey times to get there will be less Cumbria smile

Cheers,
