I'm sure there are some members on here who have done this today. Couldn't find a thread for this years.

Today was the first time I've done it, and longest ride I've ever done. And it wasn't too bad! Not the quickest time by a long way, and I hate the hills, that last one was a bh and going to have nightmares over it.

But it was amazing. When doing a few rides before, anything over 20 miles I kind of hit the wall. Today was different and reckon it's down to the other people around you.

I ache now though!

Well done. I've certainly seen threads and start times posted, but not recently.

I've done L2B, but I wouldn't do the BHF one to be honest. I think it's way too busy and some of the riding would get up my nose.

I did it today. A huge personal achievement for me considering up until February this year it had been about 25 years since I last rode a bike! Anyway, too tired to write much now, but will give a full low down tomorrow!

Well done to everyone who took part. A proud day!

Other people around can help spur the human spirit on, I have only don't Ditchling at the end of a 213km ride, was a lot harder than expected.

The run down into town and the station was great though, nice day for it today.

Some of the riding was questionable. Wrong side of the road down hill around a blind bend.

Today I am aching a lot more. Getting up was painful!

This was my first day time ride having done the night one three times. Beautiful weather and great support. I think I hit a new top speed going into Brighton.

I found the standard of riding a lot better than I'd feared - maybe an early start (7.30) helped by missing the crowds.

Only started training about 6 weeks ago, so I was more than happy with a sub-4 hours time, including making it up Ditching and clocking 45mph going down Coldean Lane the other side - probably the fastest I've done on a pushbike whistle

I did it with my 9 year old girl. She loved it, the spectators and other riders really pull you along. I first did it 25 years ago when it was far less busy. Cycling wasn't nearly as popular then as now. It's a shame the event now attracts so many carbon frame riding, middle aged men who seem to view others on the "charity ride" as irritating obstacles to their setting a new personal best completing the 'course' It's not for those people.

Yes it is, the size of the event means all sorts can take part, in common with other similarly-sized events.

I'm one of those carbon frame riding, middle aged men you seem to have an issue with. Not having done the ride for 15+ years I had no 'personal best' to chase but I did want to put in a decent time, but still had many opportunities to talk with other riders on the way down as well as raising a few quid for the BHF.

I started at the same time and also didn't find that much traffic. Although not sure how many groups were after us?

That being said, my time was a lot slower ha. 5:45hrs, but really didn't do as much training as I should have done. Furthest ride was 23 miles about a month ago. But over the moon to have finished it.

I want to get back on the bike as soon as possible, as since I started back on I've lost two stone (still a st load to go mind you!).

There is another bhf ride a lot closer in Wimborne in Auguest which there was talks about doing, 25, 50 and 66 miles.

Must remember to get the day after off work though. My legs were burning delivering shopping today!

I saw some young kids but not that young. That's a long way for a 9 year old. I thought the minimum age was 14?

A good result indeed, I thought my son did well at (just) nine to manage the pretty flat 42 miles of the Thames Bridges bike ride, but L2B is another notch up.

It's not a closed event so they can't really stop anyone rocking up and going for it I suppose.

The route passes the top of our road. I entered, she joined in. I bought her an islabike for her 7th birthday. Sold it and bought the large version earlier this year having lost £50 on what it cost me new. Fitted a speedo To the first bike and swapped that to the new one. She's managed 450 miles in two years. We did walk the Beacon though.

I did the LtB on Sunday for the first time in years - what a great day, we were so lucky with the weather.

Unfortunately Ditchling beat these older legs, that last little bit of the climb did me in, I just couldn't dig deep enough this time to make it to the top. So close though. My ankles still feel stiff.

The route seemed less crowded than I remember, which made the congested parts easier.

Having said 'never again' I've just been persuaded by my mate, who I rode with this year, to sign up again for next year.

A bit more training will be needed before then though.
