What disc brake equipped road bike? C2W content!
Discussion
So, apologies for another "what bike" thread but I'm new to the road scene so need some guidance.
Having started cycling to work on my Genesis hard tail with slicks I find that I'm quite enjoying it! The cycle to work scheme has just opened so I thought it would be a good idea to get something more suited to the commute. Budget is £1000 but would prefer to spend around the 800 mark. Can't do canyon/rose etc but ok for most other outlets.
Would like a road type bike with disc brakes and a decent groupset but not fussed if it's Shimano or SRAM as I have no experience of either. Been looking at the Boardman road team carbon at £850 but only has rim brakes. Other options would be the pinnacle dolomite 4 or the Genesis CDF 10. So over to you guys for suggestions please and thanks

I'm building one of these up with odd parts and spares from the garage. The frame looks nice with neat welding. For 800 this is a really good deal. Rival is a great groupset and everything is functional if not glamorous.

You need to check which retailer you can buy your bike from.
Pointless looking at Planet X bikes if you have a Ride2Work scheme as thats Evans only.
However, if your scheme does work with Planet X, then that certainly a good starting point. They are great value for money. I have a Planet X bike and its been pretty good.
The differenc ein monthly payments between £800 and £1000 will be tiny, so worth upping the limit. You can always spend £200 on accessories, which is easily achievable.

Hi bakerstreet, yes can use Planet X, just there's is a 10% surcharge to pay. Still good value bikes I guess. And was probably going to get myself a new met parachute helmet with the "spare" money left over!! Matt, I'll have a look at the whyte offerings, think there is a dealer near me which is handy.

Note that the cheaper Giant Defy bikes have mechanical rather than hydraulic discs though.
To be fair though they are TRP Spyre breaks which are consisted the best of the cable pull disc brakes. They're easy to adjust, pad change is simple and no faff with brake fluid. Imho that's a bonus for a commuter where pad change will be fairly frequent in wintersideways dan said:
Giant looks good, which model is that?? One of my lbs' shad a 2015 cannondale synapse carbon 105 in their sale for £999. Waiting for a reply from them to see if I can buy it on scheme, fingers crossed
It's a Defy Advanced 3. It's carbon and you can't fit proper mudguards. I spent literally months planning a build which was steel, disk brakes and full mudguards etc and then when it came to it I couldn't say no to this. It's so fast that you can avoid the rain though. (maybe)I have a Whyte Suffolk - 11-speed 105, TRP hy/rd cable-actuated hydraulic disc brakes and room for bigger tyres & guards. Got it for under a grand from cycle surgery. The brakes are excellent - self-adjusting so you literally just drop new pads in and nothing else. It's comfortable and seems bullet-proof.
