Upright hybrid type bike?

Hi,

I know nothing about bikes so looking for some guidance. I currently have a 10 year old full suspension mountain bike which is coming to the end of its life. I've never been into road bikes and having recently borrowed a mates racer it's not for me. My current keep fit route is 25% off-road 75% on with some steep inclines. I find after about 30 mins I really get a neck ache which is annoying. I'm not after fastest times or anything just comfortable ride without it weighing a ton and something that can handle some off-road.

Any suggestions as to a bike? Budget around 400/500 happy to go recent second hand or new 2-4 year old model

There are some suggestions here. My wife had a look at a Pinnacle Lithium which was very nice but eventually she settled on a Specialized Crossroads.

I'm looking at same and have been for a while and its a toss up between cannondale badboy or pinnacle.... I cant remember exact model as evans website is acting up again, but it had shimano brakes and what felt like a pretty light wheelset. Had decent pannier mounts etc as well for when I'm truly old....

Just need to make some space....

ETA it was a Lithium 4, but the 5 looks good and a few quid off a six. I liked the badboy a lot but I'd want the 3...

For the money I think the Lithium range is outstanding value for a whole variety of cyclists.

The only thing it doesn't have is a sexy badge tbh (says the man who bought his wife a Whyte because it was so purdy!)
