great time in morzine

Glad you enjoyed it
It was my first roadtrip out there this year, just got back at the weekend.
We were only there 3 days, and had another 3 days bouldering in fontainbleau, but it was fantastic! Definately going to have to get back next year, but hopefully for a couple of weeks so we have time to chill out and get some other activities in too...

There is loads of xc in morzine let's gets avoriaz chat etc but to get places you will have to do blue runs. In the alps a blue is generally steeper than anything in the uk.
The pasporte is a great xc event. Run at the end of June each year 80k through 5 resorts in 1 day. We used to do that b4 we got into the DH

I badly broke my leg snowboarding, two years ago. There was a Welsh nurse working in the hospital in Bourg St Maurice. We were chatting and she said "You think you leg is bad, the DH mountain bikers we get in here in the summer... they come in with so many broken bones we don't know where to start".
I think I'll leave you to it!

wot he said. if you have any sense you wear armour. one of my friends watched an English middle aged guy break his neck on a blue run. too fast just got away from him and a big accident. the alps are steep the runs very long and not forgiving.
we all wear full armour including back and chest plates shoulder and neck braces plus all the usual elbow and knee pads etc

We did the blue family run from the top of Le Pleney as a starting point.
I live Nr Llandegla, and regularly ride the full trails there.
The family blue was far worse than anything Deggie has to offer..... :-0
Some of reds up at Les Gets you could only ride down, they were too steep to walk.

and bear in mind that les gets has the gentle slopes. the blue on the super morzine is easy though lots of lovely berms and you can go round the jumps etc. I live Nr Llandegla, and regularly ride the full trails there.

We used to go but after I started road riding, I haven't been back. Had some superb trips, all with old school mates who used to mtb together.
I don't think we had one trip without a broken bone ... mostly hands, arms and collar bone type injuries. Luckily I got away unscathed although had some pretty big smashes ... one that sticks in my mind was off the roof of a hut at Les Gets ... too much speed, straight over the bars and pile drove my head into the ground.
I did see plenty of others who'd had pretty bad crashes ... one lad crashed near the bottom of Les Gets and ended up in some trees and has to be stretchered down.
I'd probably stick to road riding and maybe some XC if I went back as there are loads of decent XC trails around for those who don#t want to risk coming home in pieces

Not just me then, in 2011. Last run of the first day in les Arcs. Semi-emergency operation the next day and three days in BSM hospital (which is ace, by the way).

Some riding before the crash:

Yep a great hospital, with world class surgeons. The guy who did me saved my foot. My specialist here said they would have amputated in the UK.I've just bought a place in Vd'I for snowboarding and road biking hols. I'm really hoping never to be back in BSM hospital! The DH stuff in VdI and Tignes looks terrifying.
It's great isn't it?! I've been going on/off for 10 years now.
In recent years I've not had a full on DH bike, so been riding with my 6" Enduro bike, FF lid, elbow and knee pads, I've still got the full-on suit of armor, but I haven't worn it in years.
It seems to be the way things are going, the main 'motorway' trails off the major lifts have been made more ridable year on year, not 'easy' but less 'stupid' less teflon coated wood, less sudden mud slides, less blind drops from teflon coated wood onto sudden mud slides, more fun and more accessable for more riders on smaller bikes. Not all of it though, oh lord no, still some massive stuff there.
Downside is, a bit like Bike Park Wales, you can go very fast, very easily - run out of room or tallent and it's going to be a big one.
This year we went to Les Arcs instead, it's smaller, much quieter on and off the bike. Ironically the DH runs there are pretty easy, fun but easy (for DH runs) the off-piste XC stuff is incredably tough.

Fixed that for you.
Anyway, crashing is the new yoga
Or indeed if you encounter a couple of inches of snow laying across the trail in front of you!
My post might have had a whiff of 'humblebrag' about it, but I was trying to 'speak' to a learned audience
