Triban or Marin 29er

Evening all. New to these parts. Not ridden a bike for years, but looking to get back into it with a hybrid.

Currently top of the pops are these two:

Triban

Both are around the £250 - £300 mark. Which as this is a slight experiment, I don't really want to spend much more. Just wondered which one you'd go for, or would you suggest something different, like a Giant Roam?

I have the road/race version of the Triban 500 and it has been a solid bike. The wheel bearings were totally knackered after about 5000 miles though. I'd guess the flat bar bike would be similarly reliable (ignoring the very budget wheels).

I haven't heard of Marin so can't comment on that.

Went for the B'Twin 540 in the in end. At £450 it was too good a deal to pass up on.

kona dew would be my choice at that price had one for comuteing that did me proud , quick on road and quick on dirt tracks and gravel

Are you going to ride road and light off road ? If just road I wouldn't buy a flat bar hybrid , I did in past and regretted it. I did enjoy the Dew as it was lots more rugged to handle dirt tracks but still quick on road

Changed my brief a little in the end. Went for a drop bar.

Good choice on the 105. I forgot to mention that the gears on mine are probably the worst thing about the bike.

That is an utter bargain, wish I saw it last month as would have bought it before I got another bike

Yeah, i grabbed one of those a couple of weeks ago when the sale started, great bike for the price.
