Which bike for a triathlon

Morning, I hope this is in the right section. I thought it might sink in the triathlon section. Not good.

I have put myself down for a triathlon (2.2km swim, 90km bike and a half marathon) and I have a bit of a dilemma as to what bike I should buy.

At the moment, I am on holiday in Mallorca and my son and I have hired three posh carbon bikes. The first were both Canyon Enduraces with Shimano Ultegra which were great and in good condition so I have a benchmark. The second pair are by BMC, one with Shimano Ultegra, the other with Shimano Ultegra electric. The mechanical one is a bit tired with a sloppy chain. The electric one is nearly new and is great. It is possible to buy each of the BMC ones, deliverable to home. Prices 2k and 2.2k Euros.

I have tried a carbon bike for roughly this price in Berlin but did not like it.

Questions:
Is it a better plan to buy a bike at home or one of these?
How reliable are the Shimano electric bits? My experience with bikes and electricity has been restricted to lights and it has not been happy. I imagine electric controls make fitting tri-bars with gear control much easier.
Does anyone pay the full price for a bike?

Don't buy on a whim whilst away, come home and do some proper research, and remember the sales will be starting soon... they sound overpriced. If that's your budget you can get a very capable bike.

Since you've got access to the internet, get the models for BMC's and check what they'd cost from Evans:

If you've had a chance to properly ride them out there, and know exactly which one you would be getting, they sound like they could be a reasonable deal. I'd be looking at the Di2 one.

Quite. 2k Euros sounds rather pricey for a tired hire bike (assuming I've read this right and the ones you can buy are the ones you have hired)
