Rear lights, not seatpost mounted!

Any reccomendations?

Its ooming up to lights time again. I have a number of decent lights (Blackburn Mars etc) but they are all seatpost mounted. I have a reverb now - no good!


I tend to run a light on the top of my back/bag, and one on the post. I need to replace the one on the bike with something that will mount under the seat, or on the seat stays maybe. Any ideas?

This one (heavily reduced ATM) came with a smaller fastening which looked like it would be ideal for seat stays.

It's 2 watts, and I can say from experience that it's painfully bright up close.

Slightly annoying (for you) as it was £13 yesterday and it's gone up to £20 today.

Moon Comet. It comes with a seat post and seat rail mount. If you wait a while Aldi will have them in for about £10 without the Moon branding. I have both and it looks to be exactly the same light.

Nice chaps, met them at a few local MTB races (they often sponsor the races and have a stand with lights to see and touch). Not bought from them myself - a bit too expensive ( at £85 ) for a jobless slacker, but high on my priority list when I do get a wage coming in...

I have one of these mounted to the seat stay - its very bright, which makes up for it being a bit lower than I'd like - the mounting is a rubber band though, which I thought was a bit crap. Cycle Republic did it for £25 for me on a pricematch.

Same as the Aldi offering, and all are based on the Moon Comet, I think. Mine came from Aldi (or is it Lidl?) but I wasn't able to use the seat rail mount as the 'notches' didn't match the spacing of my saddle rails. No matter, I've got a saddle bag anyway and mount these on my seat post. Usually two together, so that when the first one exhausts it's battery I can simply switch to the other one. (Yes, I do tend to ride for quite some time when it's dark, and you need one on in daylight where tree cover makes even the sunniest day a bit gloomy).

Fizik seats have a nice solution where you can remove the silver plate from the rear of the seat, and clip in a Fizik light.

Not a solution if you don't have a Fizik, but worth knowing about if you do.

Something like this and 2 cable ties under the saddle works for me. If you get stuck can post a pic of mine attached.

I bought one of these last year, it lasted about 3 months then refused to charge. I then bought a proper Moon Comet and that has been great.

Buy cheap, buy twice....

I've had both for around a year and the Aldi one stopped charging, or so I thought. I unscrewed the case, gave everything a bit of a wiggle and it came back to life. It's been fine since so not sure what it was, maybe some muck or water. I'd agree that the Moon version seems slightly better put together and they aren't expensive anyway really.
