Which street weapon for between 1-2k?

Am looking for a hybrid or road bike with drop bars. Not too bothered. Ideally around 105 level chainset. I really dislike bikes with too many colours and logos etc, ie something ideally all in black and stealthy, light (ish) and quick. If it can handle a little off-road action too then even better.

Ive recently picked up a Cannondale Synapse Carbon 105, for around £1.5k, definitely some deals to be done still this time of year. Im very pleased with it, comfortable to ride and has some scope to go larger on the tyre.

Thanks so far for the replies. I will check out the synapse.
I am also looking at the Specialized Roubaix, Specialized Sequoia (although it might be too similar to a CX bike), also the BMC Alpenchallenge AC01 105.

I already have a CX bike, but don’t want to risk it in London as I paid a lot for it and don’t want some oik nicking it. I want something more street-based, with mild off-road creds. I do like some of the Canyon bikes, but it seems that the company is pretty unreliable with regards to delivery etc and also I would also like to look at an actual bike before placing an order.

If its something your worried about getting nicked, to ride through town and chain to a post, then surely a £3-400 hybrid boardman/revolution/carerra type is more suited?

GT Grade Carbon 105? Some good offers on them at the moment.

yes you are right. I do have secure bike storage at work, its just when I go for a ride I want to be more careful, which is why I was thinking of something a bit more special

Have a look at Thorn.They make some interesting bikes.I am going to buy an audax frame and forks to build up from an old Bianchi I bought my son many moons ago.

I'm awaiting delivery of a Canyon Commuter 6.0. Flat bars instead of drop but it includes everything I think necessary for a "street machine" (i.e. commuting bike) such as a rack and mudguards, as well as built-in lights (hub dynamo) and disc brakes. I am also intrigued by the 11 speed hub gears and belt drive. Should be pretty good on gravel and basic offroad too.

Looks nice and clean, no large logos and quite a stealthy appearance.

I was looking at the commuter 8.0, but reviews on Canyon itself as a company have put me off.

I am sort of decided now. 2016 Trek Domane 4.5 (non disc). I just need to decide if I want to put my hand in my wallet or not !!!!!

I'm interested in a Urban or a Commuter. What's their sizing like? Have you tried one?

Synapse 105 is almost certainly the one IMHO. Ride really nice, you notice the "SAVE" rear end on B roads.

Not seen one 'in the metal' as such yet - hoping mine arrives in a week or so, it was apparently built yesterday

I-ll let you know about sizing when I get it. I used their sizing tool and came out at an M - I'm 179 cm with fairly long legs and arms and a shortish torso (yeah, like a monkey..... I have a positive ape index which is great for climbing). I've tried a friend's Canyon Nerve which he bought in an L and it felt too big (he's an inch or so taller and feels he should have bought an M). I actually fiddled wit the tool for ages to see what would cause it to size me into an L and didn't ever come that close to ma actual dimensions so I should be ok.

That would be helpful, thanks. I'm 178cm too, so I'd expect a M, but I'm also considering an Cannondale, and people tell me I'd need a Large one of those. Third on my shortlist is a Whyte, and nobody seems to have much of a clue whether I'd need an M or an L for that.

Obviously, I can try a Whyte and a Cannondale, so any real-world experience of the Canyon would be great.

A Pinnacle Dolomite 5 might suit you, full hydro discs and I think its on sale atm for £850 ish

Thanks, the guy at Evans mentioned the Dolomite. I liked the GT Grade but more money than I wanted to pay. I have made a decision and picking up next week from Cycle Surgery.

Went for a road bike, but will have slightly chunkier wheels fitted too. Trek Domane 4.5 (non-disc).

They will build you one with 105 too if you ask
