Wondering is there are any PHers that don't ride xc / road and are into DH / freeride or even lazy enduro via uplifts in the south west? Forest of Dean, bike park Wales, black mountain, and project 417 (although preferably not) to name a few. My riding buddy is moving away soon and it's always good to meet some new people to fall off with.

Christ that sounds tragic!

SW is a bit of a trek for me so while I can't offer my services as a regular riding buddy, I can reassure you that there are a few of us on here that partake of the more exciting two wheeled disciplines.

Of the ones you have mentioned I have only ridden FoD, but have also ridden Rheola, Moelfre, steep woods and a few others that I can't remember off the top of my head in SW

I live in the Midlands but sometimes ride FOD and BPW along with Antur and Revo.
Have also done 417 but I wouldn't hurry back.

I'm out of action with a broken collarbone/ribs/hand at the moment but you are more than welcome to join us when we next book an uplift

I'm up for joining in, not local for the last 20 years but do make the trip to Cwmcarn, BPW, 417 occasionally. Most local to me these days is Aston hill.

What's so bad about 417? Only ever seen to hear people complain about it, and it's pouring me off making the trip. Looks ok from the videos I've seen?

Its biggest problem is that it's just not as good as the rest.

There are only 3 triails. A blue which is really dull, a red which is pretty good and a black which you have to ride at full pelt to clear all the big gaps otherwise you have to ride around a lot of the trail. It's got a very man-made feel compared to FOD or even BPW.
Oh and he uplift doesn't go to the top of the hill!

I had fun there but other places offer more varied riding, much longer runs and better technical challenges IMO

There's tidworth freeride too, although not an uplift, which is an excellent place to waste an afternoon...

Not been to Tidworth in ages, when i did I found the race track was great fun but the rest was just massive gap jumps and a bit intimidating.

417 I found the red was good and the blue fun if you go down it treating it as a race, the black easier than the red and not that good, the road gap just too long so that I never felt I could get enough speed to have a hope of clearing.

Woodland Riders lot on Facebook are good if you're looking to ride Gawton/Tavi.

There's an uplift at the weekends for Gawton now, so maybe put a post on there if anyones going on one and tag with them.

Gatwon is great fun for the day, only 5 tracks, but there is a great mix and not bad length for the size hill they're on.

Tidworth is fantastic in the dry. Bloody slippery in the wet though, very chalky. The "Oblivion" trail is still one of my favourites to ride. Excellent fun, just a shame it's not 10 times longer!

How did you manage that? And yes I'd be keen for sure.

On a bloody XC ride - which I very very rarely do these days but I've given up smoking and was clucking for a smoke so went for a bimble around the woods to take my mind off it.

Hit a pathetic little jump (in comparison to the usual stuff I ride) and ended up getting thrown over the bars and mashed myself up. I had to have my ear sewn back on with 14 stitches.

fk pedalling.
