Two seperate questions that probably don't merit their own threads.

Strava Premium - is it worth it? I'm a runner first, cyclist second and spend a fair bit of time nosying through Strava - both my efforts and others. Two things are tempting me towards Premium - Live Segments and Beacon. Live Segments seem like an interesting way of chucking in some effort into the commute but I currently use a TomTom watch for recording my rides, and the only way I can see to get Live Segments is to record the ride on mobile then discard it at the end. And try not to discard the TomTom one (which has my HR and probably more accurate GPS stats.) Seems a bit faffy, does anyone else do similar or have a better way of doing it?
And overall, are the extra stats/analysis tools any cop or am I just looking at the same sort of stuff I already get through TomTom MySports?

Second question: prescription sunglasses. I'm after something to keep the wind out of my eyes on fast descents. I tried a combination of dhb Pro Triple glasses with contact lenses, but whilst I love everything about the dhb's I can't get on with contacts. So I'm looking at the cheapest route into either using the dhb's or getting something similar. Any suggestions?

Strava almost always has a 'Try free for 30 days' offer on.

I tried it, didn't think any of the additional features were worth it (for me) so then cancelled it.

I've currently got the 60day free premium trial running.

Unless you have a HRM and PM it's kind of pointless. I've not seen anything on it I can't do without premium

For prescription sunglasses, try Optilabs.

For Strava, no idea!

The reason I wanted to trial the Premium version is because I'm fat and old.

So I wanted to narrow down the leaderboards bu age and weight.

It's possible to do one OR the other, but not both at the same time.

So unfortunatley I didn't magically leapfrog everyone younger and thinner than me and appear at the top of any leaderboards.

Strava - It's only £4/month. I viewed it as paying for something I use a lot and I didn't want to lose. It's not funded by ad revenue like a lot of sites so it had value for me. You also get access to training plans, although not a the best in IMO. I just discovered you also get 2 months of Zwift for free each year which saves £16/year if you use it.

It sounds like it is going to be a bit of a faff if you are recording rides twice, although given how flakey Strava can it having a backup may be worth it sometimes. If you have got an iPhone the find my friends/location sharing feature does the same thing as beacon.

What do you find is not working with the contact lenses? Have you discussed with your optician and trying some other options? If you want to go down the prescription sunglasses route I've had a pair of prescription Oakleys in the past and they were really good. I'm currently using non-RX Prizm lenses on my racing jackets and am seriously impressed with them. I thought it was going to be a bit of a gimmick before I tried them, but they really did pick up more detail in the trail. I've also been told that the road version are just as good.

Flakeyness isn't an issue really as my watch saves it to the TomTom website first, then exports to Strava. It's rock solid as long as when you sync you have a data connection.

I won't go into the in's and out's but contacts are out - discussed with the optician. And I'm trying to do this as cheaply as possible - at some point I'd like to think I'll have the budget for something half decent (Oakley's or similar) but for now I'm just looking at the cheapest route into keeping the wind out of my eyes. Either cheap prescription lenses, clips in's or something else.

Premium....hmmm. Not sure, but I keep forgetting to cancel my subscription.

For a tenner however https://veloviewer.com/ is awesome value for money and gives you way more stats and information than Strava...
