Are they selling basically the same product?
As I understand they buy in frames from China,Taiwan and build them up.
Other than Giant,Time and a few others do many bike companies still make their own products or is it all bought in,contracted out.

OBM - Giant. The factory is owned by the brand, as are the designs, the lay up of carbon etc
ODM - Deng Fu et al. Own the factory and the design but you can have your name on the side
OEM - Cervelo. A brand who own the design, but have no factory to build it in.

So Planet X et al are effectively OEMs but I'd assume most of their bikes are from an ODM catalogue, they don't have a design team per se. The ODMs are quite progressive and need to keep offering new and innovative products. People get too hung up about where their bike is from and who made it imho.

Also PX used to sell a TT bike but only got sales rights in the UK. The same frame was used by Cadel Evans in the tour.

Course it's not just carbon; PX titanium were first made by Lynskey, and then by Van Nicholas. Both times cheaper than the manufacturer's cheapest models. My PX titanium was made by Serotta when they needed all the work they could get; better to have some work coming in than none. Now of course the PX Ti bikes are made in Taiwan.
