Need to replace the nicked bike.

So the Giant has been nicked. b
ds. Its was a 21" Giant Escape 2 on the cycle to work scheme. I thought the frame felt a little small, I'm 6ft 3" with a 32" inside leg (tall with mutant short legs and strange long body!)
Generally I liked the Giant, was disappointed when the rear set hanger broke and left me stuck. Some plating on screws was going off at 6 months. Was £400 rrp bike, I can't help but think it didn't feel worth that money.
Replacement will have a hard life, it'll do 60 miles a week with 17 stone on board, mostly tarmac, some gravel. Will live outside.
I don't really want to spend much as redundancy is looming, but I can't live with the old tredder from dad's shed.
Would buy secondhand if better quality. I'm not a bike snob (or car tyres, cars, petrol, only really snobbish about Vintage Port!)
Nice and light would be good as I carry up some steps each morning.
Halfords own brand Apollo Transfer is £90, how bad can it be?

If you think the giant was poor build wait until you try the Apollo!
Its a cheap steal frame for starters and will weigh a tonne, with nasty components
They are fine if you want an bike to coast along to the pub occasionally in the summer otherwise forget it
I'd go secondhand, spend about £80-£150 and budget another £50 to replace bits that are broken/worn
See idiotgaps recent thread for advice, I'd go for a Kona dew, or any alu branded hybrid will do a good enough job

Decathlon do a range of Quite Reasonable Bikes At The Price. I've got a B'Twin something or other which is really nicely put together. Designed in France, made in Portugal.

Yes, thanks for the advice about the lock....Just how bad can a £90 Halfords bike be?
I have a cheap chinese thing in the garage, probably similar to the Apollo. It has soft bearing races so you have to continually adjust say the headset! Put me off riding. But the Crossfire got me back into it & really enjoying it.
I'd have a good look around places ike Cash Converters & some of the charity shop. Our local Sue Ryder had a tatty but well spec'd Trek in on Saturday, needed a clean & a service, @ £75 I nearly bought it.
