How many of you dont wear Lycra?

So out an about on the bike I noticed the road bike riders were wearing Lycra skin tight leggings. I seem to be one of the few who wear shorts over my leggings and not just because of the weather.

Just seems as unnecessary ass exposure to me. lol...

So how many of you like me wear shorts? I am expecting this may be a very lonely thread.

I don't, t-shirt and shorts in summer, top(s) over in Autumn, Winter & Spring (always light coloured).

I'd be divorced if I ever went out looking like a MAMIL.

I don't care what other people think of me or what i'm wearing, my skin is thicker than my lycra, I just wear the best tool for the job

I used to wear shorts over lycra, but I was slower and more shallow, now I just get on with riding rather than worrying what others think of my attire

I wear bib-shorts
I might put leggings on over them when it's cold, but I'll still have the bib shorts on underneath

I believe that how people pigeonhole me based on an initial impression is vital to my safety on the road. I avoid visible lycra due to the negative connotations it has. I wear padded lycra shorts as underwear underneath normal shorts.

I have found myself trying to control the urge to run lycra clad (No your not on the tour and it doesn't make you faster on the commute or sunday ride) brigade off the road! My eyes MY EYES!!!! lol...

Also shaving of the legs??!!! How many tenths is that worth?

When on my MTB i tend to have a pair of shorts over lycra bib shorts / tights. However when on the road it's just more comfortable to be in just the lycra..

I really don't give a toss what others tihnk (and my fiancée enjoys taking the piss out of it... wouldn't want to deny her that..)

I think I can avoid the MAMIL tag for a while having only just turned 30..

I do half my commute in from Surrey on the train, then get off at Croydon, grab my bike and cycle the remaining way into the city. If anyone should feel self conscious in lycra it should be me as I have to move amongst normal folk. I don't really care at all what they think though, I choose what to wear based on what I think is the best tool for the job and on the weather.

You probably shouldn't listen to me though, I fitted a basket to my commuting bike this week so I've lost all self-respect anyway!

Please buy some PH lycra, and help us reach critical mass for a new order!

I did wear shorts over the tights when I first got them, but don't bother now.

I haven't worn Lycra shorts in summer tho, I prefer the MTB looser more normal shorts that have the stretch stuff in them & have padded undershorts, have worn a tri suit one piece for a race tho, but did put a high viz cycle top on once out of the water & then it just looks like a regular cycle wear, not too keen on it tho.

OP sounds insecure, lycra is the most comfortable clothing to wear when riding so even if you're just commuting why not wear something built for the job?

lol I wear ex pro team lycra on the commute and Sunday rides, mainly as the shorts and tops retailed @ £200 and really nice quality Santini that fits well and lasts for years of abuse, top quality kit I got for £20 (reduced from £200) from a guy in the Netherlands

People must think "im pretending to be on the tour" when I got it because its the most cost efficient way to buy high quality sports gear that can handle abuse

Also wearing decent kit does make you faster once you get fitter so you can exploit it

Out of interest, what reaction did you expect to get?

Lycra is the most comfortable and quickest clothing to ride in whether you're commuting or not. Some people aren't bothered about speed (generally because they're only riding <1 mile) and others are and therefore wear the appropriate equipment. Leg shaving is personal preference and I personally couldn't care less if it was for swimming, cycling, how it looks, because the pros do it, because it's quicker or because it's easier to massage or quicker to heal after a crash. I've not had a single female tell me that shaving my legs looks ridiculous and that she wouldn't sleep with me because they were shaved so I think I might just ignore the opinion of some old men on t'internet

Usually if you look like an absolute bag of st naked, you'd probably be wondering all the time what people think of you in skin tight clothes I guess.
