Continental GP 4 Seasons 25 vs 28

Just picked up a new set of 4 seasons tonight for my winter bike and decided to plump for some 28's to replace the old 25's. Having fitted the rear it doesn't really appear to be any bigger at 1st glance. I was hoping that a slightly bigger tyre would be slightly more forgiving on our rather rough hampshire country lanes during winter. Has anyone else ridden 28's after 25's and noticed a difference in how they ride or am i expecting rather a lot from a 3mm difference ?

I noticed quite a difference when i swapped from 23 to 25 4 seasons on my summer bike.

Tyres are fitted to some Fulcrum Racing 5 LG wheels with continental race 28 20-25 tubes. Noted several online comments saying the 20-25 tubes were still ok for the 28 4 seasons - does that sound about right ?

Haven't tried the other sizes but 28mm 4-seasons do come up small. They're no wider than a 25mm GP4000Sii (which come up large) on the same rim. I'm pretty sure I've used 25mm tubes with those.

You are expecting a too much from that 3mm.

I would look at tyre pressure first.

I run 28mm 4Seasons on Racing 5s and they only measure up at 27mm across with callipers, my road bike though has 25mm 4000SIIs on Bontrager Race rims and they measure 27.5mm across on the same callipers!

As said above, pressures will make the biggest difference. The 4Seasons are on a 2014 Dawes Galaxy which weighs 13kgs at the moment, I come in at 78kgs and have found 80psi front and 85 rear is as comfortable as I can get without pinching. I pinched the rear a 80psi.
