Garmin 800 USB connection issues
Discussion
I'm having more and more problems connecting my Garmin to download routes or charge it.
A month or so ago it was fine with a gentle "wiggling" of the USB cable. It's gradually become more difficult and since yesterday's ride (when it ran out of charge) it's been impossible.
I'm expecting Garmin will not help because its out of warranty.
Anyone else had similar issues and know how to fix, where to send it to be looked at, etc?
Cheers,
L'rs

TADTS. USB socket pointing down at the road is the worst possible design. This has happened to my 2 previous Garmins. Those had user replaceable back plates that included the USB socket but it looks like that isn't an option for you. Less problems since I upgraded to the 1000 with its wireless syncing so I only need the socket for charging.
800 USB socket does not point down at the road and has a pretty good blanking plug that goes in if you pay attention. Mine's done 4+ years and a lot of miles in all weathers with no issues.
What might not be helping however is that it has a damn silly design where the gap around the socket is not big enough to fit 70% of usb cables. If not using the original, it's quite common to find a USB cable doesn't plug all the way in properly - force it and you'll probably damage the socket over time, don't force it and you get an intermittent connection.
There might be mileage in trying a different cable / making sure the one you have does bottom out properly..

I'm on my 4th Edge 1000, the previous 3 have all had the same issue...failure of the USB port.
Seems they're v prone to corrosion, all of mine have been replaced by Garmin under warranty.
If you look online it's a pretty common problem, although the port on the 800 is more protected than the 1000 as it's at the bottom of the device rather than underneath.
I also find with my 1000 that the screen stops working (locks) when it's wet, also it becomes unable to calculate elevation.
A bit s
te frankly for a device (that isn't cheap) that's meant to work in all weathers
As above, worth trying a different cable as they can be a bit flaky too, although make sure it's a Garmin cable.
