Garmin Edge 510 Issues
Discussion
My Edge has been very reliable for the 2 yrs or so that I have owned it.
However, it started showing the wrong gradient (-1% up a 13% hill etc) but it often did this so I thought nothing of it.
It carried on doing this so I hooked it up to Garmin Express and found out it needed an update, did the update. Problem solved or so I thought.
Despite clearing the memory and carrying out a hard reset it will not record distance, speed works.
It wont let me save or discard the ride, just stays on that screen.
Looking on Forums some blame the cadence sensor but I use it on two bikes, one with a sensor and one without and it always worked fine.
It is really starting to piss me off so before I bin it does anyone have any ideas?

Couple of things - first factory reset the device. You'll lose everything but it only takes a few minutes to get it all back again. I did this a few months ago when it would not go past the loading screen. I think something got corrupted.
To perform a master reset:
Power device off.
Press and hold Lap and Start/Stop.
Power device on while still holding both buttons.
Continue holding buttons when Garmin "splash" screen appears.
Release buttons when Garmin "splash" screen disappears.
Then downgrade the firmware to the one you were on and had working fine. Should sort out the recording. I've given up on upgrading Garmin stuff. Their firmware testing is appalling.
Sometimes the gradient thing can be just the sensor getting blocked.
