Not looking for gnarr just some good day rides, wilderness, occasional stone circles and a distillery perhaps. MTB or the road bike? Thinking of a week exploring.

Hi. We had a big family holiday there last summer, stayed on Great Bernera so beforehand did some homework on whether an MTB or roadbike was most suitable. In the end went and hired a Giant Defy road bike as little info on off-roading to be found. Once there and leaving from the house in Great Bernera there were no off-road routes, and the road was the only option. Depends where you on the island I guess but whatever you choose it's a delight to cycle around smile

Where did you stay in Great Bernera?

We have friends that stay in Breaclet and we stayed last July in a motorhome, but have booked Bosta House for a week in April to go back.

Lovely part of the world, if a little wild weather-wise sometimes!

We stayed in tobson at a house pretty much at the end of the road, which is just after Breaclet and towards Bosta. Also spent a lot of time at Bosta as some of my wife's family are buried at the cemetery at Bosta beach. Great unspoilt part of the world. Enjoy it smile

Oh we know where that is Bosta house, we got a small dingy over to Little Bernera which is right there. A chap called Malky who teaches on the island has boat and took us for a tour around little bernera. Amazing and completely deserted . Enjoy it smile
