Do you use a Garmin edge screen protector?

Ever since I bought my garmin edge 1000 I've used screen protectors, but, my 3rd (came as a pack of 3) is in need of replacement now, it's got a few scuffs on it, there are some mucky spots which I cannot clean off etc etc....but....is there actually any point?

I don't have a screen protector on my smartphone and that's fine....Just weary about certain gloves etc may potentially cause minor scuffs on the screen? Has anyone had any issues, and how old is your unit?

I bought a 500 probably 4 years ago now, and to be honest, theres a bit of a haze on it in the centre which I cant get off. It makes zero difference to being able to see the display, but I can see it. I really want to change this year, and want something which has maps on it so I can take that unknown road or bridleway and have an idea where it goes. The new Garmins seem to have enough issues with them though.

Interesting....perhaps it is worth getting a protector then.

My edge has been GENERALLY good; although through my approx 20 months of ownership I have had several issues with it....when riding in HEAVY rain, the altitude readings/gradient readings well and truly messed up, I had an issue where it would fail to wirelessly (automatically) upload my rides (even when I asked to manually upload....so to do it, I had to plug it into my computer). Another issue i've had periodically is when swiping the screen to switch data fields it would say "screen locked" or something to that effect....bit annoying. I've had 1 instance of the unit completely crashing, I held the off button for about 30secs before anything happened.

Overall though, it's a great unit, and those foibles are few and far between, on something that gets used on average 5 times per week over the past 20 months or so. If, for example, I were to crash and it breaks, or something, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another edge 1000. I love the bigger and higher resolution screen over the other devices (although the screen resolution is still not a patch on smart phones and the like), and the ability to have up to 10 data fields on 1 single screen. The mapping function and navigation is the main reason I bought it over the "lesser" models.

I wonder when they'll bring out a new top-end unit??

I have a four year old edge 800 that i really should have put a protector on, it's got loads of minor marks and scratches on the screen.
If I'd used a protector there's no way I'd have got through 3, imo they are there to take the knocks, not to remain pristine.

Good to know, that's 2 people who have minor scuffs on theirs....think I'll buy some more. I got through the 1st one very quickly (like 1 minute....as I made a hash of applying it ). The current one is still OK, but it's got marks/scuffs/dirt on there which make it look a bit tatty.

Just about to order some more

I use mine off road as well as on

Grit on wet gloves is very abrasive so I use a protector

Can't remember exactly but something similar

I've got an Edge 800 with a screen protector and a rubber bumper on. I've used it for about 4 or 5 years, and never replaced the screen protector. It looks a bit hazy, but to be fair I don't really use the touchscreen functionality that often.

I can still see through it perfectly, so no plans to replace. I will always try to have a protector on a screen, after learning my lesson with the wife using my iPad. (She swears she knows nothing about the circular scratch the same diameter as her favourite tea mug.)

Same here. On a 510. Been on there for a few years now and looks good. Also got the silicon case as well

I have a 520 and because of the cost I use a screen protector and silicon case.
I also have the lanyeard thing wrapped round the handlebars in case it comes off its mount

I have an 820 which replaced a 510 ... never dropped my 510 and I must have dropped my 820 about 5 times so it has scratches on it.

I do however use a screen protector (go figure ... ) but just the cheapo Amazon jobs which I swap regularly and seem to be fine.

Right, off to buy a silicon case before I drop it again

Yep, I also use a silicone case. I've not dropped it yet but it's worth having just in case I think.
