The £1500 what bike thread

Following on from my Cube vs Giant thread.
Originally I was looking at a CdF 30,then looked at clearance bikes,hence the Cube vs Giant thread.Then liked the idea of a Kona Roadhouse 2016 not 2017 or a Bianchi Vigorelli.
Quite frankly I am going round in circles.I like steel but they seem expensive when compared to carbon and carbon is getting some very good discounts.
I am 6 foot,113kg,ride for pleasure and can be in the Pyrenees in 4 hours door to door.
If it was your cash what would you buy?

Like steel? How about last year's equilibrium disc 30, reduced from £1850 to £1240?
I'm 5'11 and actually had a 2015 Equilibrium in small, since replaced under warranty with a 2017 medium (both sizes work for me), so perhaps the medium advertised here would work for you.

Personally I always buy 2nd hand for even bigger savings, but have to admit some of the previous year models are hard to ignore.

Is better to have a bike a bit to small rather than to big?

Maybe not so convenient for you given your location, but I was in a similar position and so invested £75 in a new bike consultation with The Bike Whisperer in Newbury. He measured me up, told me the best geo for me and gave me a recommendation within my budget (Canyon AL7 w/Ultegra).
Was delivered last week and It's a marvellous thing - very happy

Specialized retailers should be able to do that for free, they can fit you for their bikes obviously, but once you've done the fitting it will give you a good idea for any others.Was delivered last week and It's a marvellous thing - very happy

Good question (standover height) that I don't know the answer to. I had a professional bike fit on the small and then when it came to the replacement the LBS (who also carried out the fit) confirmed that every measurement bar one transitioned to the medium. The single exception was that a slightly shorter stem would have given an exact fit, but that they felt that it should be fine. I do agree, smaller is better than too big. In my case, I was only able to test ride a small first-time around - so although they could have sold me either, small was a safer bet. With a proper fit in the bag, it was easier to be sure on the medium for the replacement.

Best option, IMO. Wheels are not the best, but you are getting a decent gruppo and a very good frame that will be worthy of upgrades should you hang on to it. Too bad it isn't in Campy spec, but still the one to get, IMO.http://shop.devercycles.co.uk/4161/products/colnag...
