In the pursuit, does the race automatically end if one rider or team catches their opponent, or are they allowed to keep going if they're chasing a World record time as well?

AIUI the race is over if one team catches the other

But the rules do state that a caught team must complete the distance if it wishes to record a time (to qualify for later rounds as a fast loser for instance)
