Mavic claims to have created a shoe that transfers power across all 360 degrees of the pedal stroke. Clever stuff.

I love Mavic pedals, perhaps I should get matching shoes smile

There's only one downside. A totally insane price. Who's got £900 to spend on a pair of shoes!?! jester

900 for a pair of shoes ?? Umm not sure I would get that one signed off , there has to be a better use of cash than that , but if money is no object ?

I think what's happened is they've realised that, compared to women's shoes (or handbags for that matter), they're charging far too little for posh shoes. You have to admire their chutzpah.

I further think they've done it to try to normalise that price-point so that when they bring out a range of shoes at £300 to £400 people go "wow, nearly all the features of the £900 shoes at a price I can afford! I must have them immediately!"

This.

Exactly which part of the pedal stroke do "normal" shoes fail to engage?

Crazy but without excess, life would be boring.

It's a halo product development piece that's designed (and financed) for PR purposes. They won't have set up a production process for any real volume and they probably won't make anything on the limited number of sales but they don't need to for this to be 'successful'. The price/cost just adds to the PR value.
