Siezed seat post.....

I needed to adjust my saddle height on my winter/turbo bike and it's siezed.

It's an ali post into carbon frame and hasn't been moved for a year or so.

Anyone any suggestions on how to free it?

Had the same on my lads Scott RC, you need ammonia household cleaner, make a funnel round the seatpost using kitchen roll wrapped in duck tape and drizzle it in. Ammonia works well as it dissolves aluminium oxide. Its detailed on the Sheldon Brown pages.

Try your LBS before you go any further a decent shop will at least exhaust all basic methods

I've got loads of experience of this, but it was on a steel framed bike, so I could be very rough with the frame,

One time my alu post was stuck solid in steel frame, LBS got it out for a tenner by putting frame in vice and a huge bar

Next year it seized again (even though I madly greased it) , I couldn't go back !! After snapping the saddle in two through turning it too hard I put a 4-way wheel brace in the saddle clamp and went mad with it,


Still stuck...I took the wheels off, turned the frame upside down and stood on the wheel brace and used the whole frame as a lever and every muscle in my body to pull up!!! Sure enough ...POOOOPPPPPP it popped out...job jobbed...Took me three hours of swearing though ...If I had a proper workshop it would have been much easier. I wouldn't have done the above with an Alu or Carbon frame though

Although.....the bike had the last laugh....A few weeks later I had a puncture in the car...went to change the wheel...realised my wheel brace was still in my garage from bike repairs !!

Alas we've not got an LBS near anymore

So I think I'll try the £9.99 Carbo Move option and if that doesn't work have a rethink!

Should've added more detail that that's what my LBS use.

Effetto products are really good, I use their cafe latex in my tubs.
