Aaaarrrggggh! Boring black or babypoo brown? Help me decide!

As per this post, I have a new job as a mountain bike guide in Bolivia but being a bit of a roadie turned long distance tourist, my current MTB is a bit out of date (curved steel forks & rim brakes ) so I need a new one and have my heart set on a Santa Cruz Tallboy which up until yesterday was going to be dark grey with orange graphics and looked stunning.

Logging on to the Santa Cruz website earlier today to look up what spares I should take with me to Bolivia I saw that they've launched the 2018 models already and the yellow frame / green graphics or grey with orange have been replaced by a choice of either rust or carbon coloured frames, both of which are so I'm having trouble deciding.





Ideally I'd have a sneaky peak at my friendly local Santa Cruz dealer but as these colours have only just appeared on the SC website and I fly to Bolivia in just over a week I fear I'm going to have to take a punt based on internet images alone and I have a nagging feeling that while that orange frame looks great on the web it wouldn't surprise me if it looked like the contents of a nappy in the metal.

I genuinely like both and can't decide so I'll open this one up to the PH masses:- Which one would you get?

I love the orange. Would go for that over the black personally.

Dammit, yesterday was the black but today it's the orange! It doesn't help that tilting my laptop screen takes it from a lovely shade of dark orange to st brown and back again.

I'm going for the R build in Aluminium with 27.5" wheels which comes with a 3" tyre to see how it goes. All the reviews I've read so far on 27.5+ bikes have been very favourable and one of the great things about the Tallboy is that it can run both sizes so if I feel like a change later on I can buy a 29" wheelset rather than another bike.

I was tempted by one a little while ago

I have not seen any of the new colours yet but with the old colour schemes their whole range seemed to look a lot better in real rather than pictures. More vivid colours that somehow popped in daylight.

I'm running a 27.5 here & find it a nice compromise between covering ground & handling. I broke it recently, so went back to my 26" for a while. The smaller frame & wheels really did make it feel like a sports car to ride, if a bit hacky on long climbs, but ti was great on the trails, I must ride it more often.

Orange 100%, the "black and tan" looks dull.

Why settle for a boring colour?

I would have said black, but in reality I'd go for whichever one I could get first/or get a deal on.

If this is the bike your other thread is about, I'd be going for OEM pads.
