Bike Locks- which ones, what do you use?
Discussion
Any recommendations for 2 bike lock to be used for street parking?
Should I get a D-lock and a chain, or a d-lock and one of the Abus folding ones?
Need to be both from the same brand so I can get them keyed alike, so one key unlocks all.
Will be used around London/South east so guessing high risk factor?

Have a look through here - http://www.soldsecure.com/search/
The more secure they are, the heavier they become.

I use a few of these http://www.clasohlson.com/uk/Asaklitt-Shackle-Lock... - best bang for the buck
sold secure gold, and the equivalent in Holland - ART. http://stichtingart.nl/art-foundation/
someone tried to go through one on my station bike, and failed miserably
if it's outside, just keep it well oiled.

Where I work, we have a camera facing a bike rack on a public street. It is becoming a almost daily occurrence of bike theft and requests for footage. If it's a combi lock, forget it, they'll have it within 20 seconds. And if it's a chain or link lock, it's gone in 3 minutes. They slide your saddle post out, and just twist the lock until it snaps. This is all in broad daylight too.
D lock only and a good one at that. I'm yet to see anyone with a power tool, it's all chancers.
The last one was someone spotted a 'good' saddle, walked up to the bike, with a helmet on etc, placed bag on saddle, pretended to sort bag out and then lifted the saddle under the bag and walked off.

I wouldnt ever leave a bike locked in a public place using a lock I could carry there
Bike locks are crap
Even expensive ones can be cropped far too easily with readily portable equipment
I commute to 2 different places of work
My security at each involves a mahoosive chain and equally inconvenient padlock which I leave on site 24/7 all year round
Cheers

I was looking at getting insurance for my bike and that was one of the requirements. Not something I have ever seen before, other than the basic locks built into my Thule bike rack anyway.
Your insurance company probably saw this:I was looking at getting insurance for my bike and that was one of the requirements. Not something I have ever seen before, other than the basic locks built into my Thule bike rack anyway.

Yes, but use a D-lock or a heavy chain. I had a steel wire type lock on mine, that took about 5 seconds to cut and the Thule lock was defeated in a further 7 or so... I have a video if you're interested.I was looking at getting insurance for my bike and that was one of the requirements. Always wondered what worthwhile items Clas Olson actually sold as seems to be lots of random crap I use a few of these http://www.clasohlson.com/uk/Asaklitt-Shackle-Lock... - best bang for the buck

Bargain price for a thick lock. Very tempted but only put off as want 2 locks on 1 key so need to be same brand which is a shame. Might buy a a couple to use in the shed though. Also really like the liteLok but again, don't want two keys. Rather get same locks for all family matched on one key to make life simple.

Decided I am most probably going to get a full set from Pragmasis, just need to decide on size and length of the chains.
But as a temp measure, Halfords have the Kryponite new york mini reduced online to £60, got a bit more off and bought at £55 s, no brainer seeing as I can always sell it on later for not much loss.

If you contact Litelok directly, they will order two locks with matching keys.
