Another What Tire... (Cyclocross, on and off road)...

I have a Cannondale CAADX which is a fantastic all-round bike. I use it for commuting (on road, occasional towpath) and currently do this on the fantastic Continental Grand Prix 4Season tires in 28c width. Rolls well, grippy in the wet and never puncture.
As the weather starts to turn I'll be commuting less (but not stopping completely) and hitting my local forest trails and gravel more often. The tires the bike came with, Schwalble Sammy Slick in 35c width, do a great job on and off the road though I was puncturing every second or third road ride. I believe that this was because in the wet, on road, the soft compound was picking up flint / glass / debris, piercing the tyre and tube. The tires has a few cuts in them after less than 200 miles. This doesn't happen with the GP4S tires.
Any suggestions for a good 700c tire for my forest and gravel duties which I can still do the odd commute on-road without puncturing all the time!? Oh, and I am looking for a one-tyre-fits-all solution!

I have the same bike, I use mine in a similar way to you. I took off the original tyres and replaced them with Schwalbe Land Cruisers, which are as hard as nails but slower than I'd want on the road. I've since swapped again to Schwalbe Marathon Ultras in 35, they roll nicely and will go off road happily.
I haven't used them in the wet much, but I think they will be ok from the little wet weather work I've done in them.

Been great on Gravel and Road on my steel bike, done some fast gravel runs, road commuting and riding about with my daughter on the back in a seat and even a Century Club ride the other week

Quite tempted to try a 28mm as well, did you find it made a big difference?

Expensive but I use Clement X'PLOR MSO in 32 x 700c, they are terrific off road and roll really well on the road, I have them on my Genesis Croix de Fer and my State Thunderbird single speed cx bike.
Another vote for Clement XPLOR - came as 35x700 on my Norco Search and 12 months/3000km later they are still unpunctured. Have been well used on rocky sandy singletrack, tree roots, gravel fireroads and asphalt and I'm v impressed.Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
