New starter waterproof help!

Evening chaps

Just looking for some help / options to where to look for some waterproofs. Ive got to start biking work so i need to get some clothing for the typical british weather. I have to wear shorts when biking as im a podgy git who sweats like mad!

Have around £40 to start off with but can add more if have too.

How far are you cycling? I have a lightweight "Elite Cycling Project" fluorescent top which suits my needs. I use waterproof trousers by regatta for my legs but I am cycling in my suit. I think the most important thing is to concentrate on making yourself visible as I have noticed how difficult even in central London against all the background shadows, lights etc.

Leisure cycling I try and avoid the rain, and even I get caught out its the same top as above and nothing on legs.

Regatta/sports direct/go outdoors etc all do plastic bags in the shape of clothes relatively cheaply.

if you're not pedaling hard you'll be fine, as soon as you need proper stuff i would recommend Endura or Gore waterproofs but that comes in multiples of £40's

Seconded, the Aldi waterproof overtrousers are excellent, shoe covers aren't bad. Not tried any of the jackets.

You should get a full kit in budget

Endura Convert. Probably £50 at Tredz after the usual £5 discount. Proper stuff. You can't skimp on cycling clothing quality. False economy.

It's over budget but honestly this is what you need, it's an absolutely fantastic jacket which feels like something costing way more and is versatile enough to do you all winter.

Blood new member block got put on the forums so i couldnt reply. Im only doing around 8 miles each way but i find that i sweat like mad when biking so i was looking for something to keep cool but be waterproof.

Im only riding in urban areas so not through town or anything at the miniute. Im just finding it hard to get motivated to ditch the car and start biking for health reasons. Im just that person who jumps out of bed 20 minutes before they get work and its a hard habit to break!

For 8 miles in anything other than really heavy rain, you might want to look at Gore Bike Wear Windstopper Mine has removable sleeves and vents etc. Solid kit.

When it's chucking it down I use a GBW PacLite jacket with taped seams which is much more waterproof but less breathable, but it's marginally more pleasant to get damp from the inside out.

GBW is great stuff. I have their PacLite trousers and skinny fleece tops too, they last really well.

RRP £100, showing as £43.99 on their website but I picked mine up for £25 at a factory outlet place (Talke Pits in Staffs)

Only been hit by light rain so far but it did the job.

Claims 3000 mm for waterproofness and breathability. Not the best but for the price you won't get better

3 pockets and I tend to ride with the sleeves removed and stuck into the two outer rear pockets.

For shorts, I go with discounted Humvee Lites - picked mine up from Cyclestore online at about £30. Not waterproof but they dry very quickly

I have purchased the rain jacket from Aldi today. It has 3 zip pockets (bonus if not carrying some sort of back pack).

It does seem slightly thick though, so ill most likely be using it during the cold months. Saying that for £19.99 its a decent jacket.
