What are your 2018 goals?
Discussion
I've not seen a thread on this, so thought it would be interesting hearing people's goals for 2018.
Personally, nothing specific in mind just yet, although I'm sure something will come along - I ended up entering the 1400km LEL audax this year on a whim.
I'm going with a few semi-realistic ones for now:
- Sub 7 hours for the Fred Whitton. I've done 7h30m a few times but much fitter now.
- Compete in local time trials, maybe do a 100 mile or 12 hour event. I like threshold stuff.
- Have a crack during hill climb season and try to get a place in the nationals.

Back on a road bike this summer after quite a gap since last riding/racing.
Next year I want to get back to some local club racing and would also like to do a bigger event like a 100 mile sportive type event, in France ideally. Something bigger to really focus on. Started looking at options reading advice.
Just enjoying being back out on a bike... bank balance not enjoying the just cycled through a Castelli factory look!!

How about something a bit more ambitious? Fancy a 7-day stage race / sportive over the Alps? I can strongly recommend the TransAlp (road not MTB) race:Next year I want to get back to some local club racing and would also like to do a bigger event like a 100 mile sportive type event, in France ideally. Be nice to do something bigger but not get too ahead of myself just getting back into it. Not on mainland uk so doing the multitude of uk based sportives not quite so easy either.
Try a longer ride/race event before trying to string 5-7 days of them together at once.
A few events:
March 4th Eden Valley Epic Cycle Sportive 94.4km/ 1297m
http://www.epicevents.co.uk/cycle-sport ... -epic.html
April 21st Tour De Lauder 143km / 1872m
http://www.tourdelauder.co.uk/
May 12th Bealach Beag 72km / 952m (Last entered in 2010!)
http://www.handsonevents.co.uk/bealach-beag/
July 29th Ride London (Charity place) 164.4km / 1864m
https://www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk/
The big one for me is the Rhine Cycle route, I'm cycling from home to a family do in Switzerland, approx 1600km, hoping to do it in under a week mid July.
Other than that a minimum of 1000km per month to keep the legs spinning.
Oh - and probably a new bike , n+1 and all that!!

- FTP up to 300w (currently est 220w)
- 3000 miles total distance
- Individual segment goals on Strava
- Go the whole year without getting injured (both this year and last I've picked up a knee injury which puts me out for a couple of months)
- Do at least one 100mi ride.
- Lose another 4-5kg to get to ~68kg

I've got a nugget of an idea about doing a 70th anniversary re-run of the 1948 Olympic Road Race.
17 laps of a course through and around Windsor Great Park. Mid August. I think it's a weekday though. Maybe even float the idea as a PH Pedal Powered gathering?

119 miles though for all 17 laps!https://www.letsride.co.uk/rides/24392
Have a go at a few CAT 4 Crit races (and base my training for these)
London RIDE100 as close to 4hrs 30 mins (ride time; have done it in just over 5 hrs 3 yrs ago)
Final one would be 2018 Cyling milage target of 7,000miles. My milage count to date is:
2012: 1,477 miles
2013: 1,888 miles
2014: 2,400 miles
2015: 3,298 miles
2016: 3,888 miles (target was 4k; annoyed as I fell short)
2017: 5,714 miles to date (target was 5k to make up for 2016 shortfall but have exceeded it - looking to get to 6k before year is out)
