I’ve a couple of targets for next year, however rather than approaching in the traditional “just ride more” approach with limited time, travel etc and being forced off the bike currently for 2mths. I’m considering an online coach to help get a plan together for an event at the start of April and then something else in July/August.

I’ve gained 6-8kgs so need to lose that, my bike fitness has gone and I don’t have a power meter. I’m a forty something recreational cyclist who wants to be in great condition again, I’m not a racer.

I’ve followed Trainer Road plans historically over winter, but not sure which to pick and am attracted to the idea of having someone else to answer to as motivation!

Without a power meter, is it worth it? Has anyone any recommendations for an online coach I could use?

Take a look at some of the training plans on TrainerRoad. I've used them in the past and they work really well, a few friends use them as well with good results.
You don't need a power meter, just a turbo trainer, HR and cadence sensors and an ANT+ thing for your computer.

Sorry, said TPeaks below, but meant Troad.... have done it as described above in the past, was wondering if anyone had gone a bit further with coaching support.

I used Tony Gifford @ VeloSport Coaching from October last year until June this year to help me get ready for this year's Tour de Force (now known as Le Loop).
I found it really helpful to structure my training (although some of the sessions he set me really weren't much fun!) and as you say it's helpful to have someone else to answer to, defo helps you get on your bike or turbo trainer when the weather's ste or you just can't be arsed!
He uses Training Peaks along with regular catch ups and has various plans, I did the basic bronze plan which was enough for me.
My FTP went up from ~280 in October last year to a peak of 343 in September this year so it definitely works!

What's your actual Goal? What do you even want to achieve? Loose weight and become fitter?
''duude'' , Stop making up some stupid excuses, you don't need any coach or special stuff... Just get up your lazy ass and go do it...

Or... Simply go Whole Food (Only) Vegan..
