First road bike £1000 budget

Time for my first road bike, I have £1000 budget but has to be bought through the Halfords cycle to work scheme.

Halfords themselves have the Boardman road team carbon but seems to have mixed reviews, although it's hard to gauge the criticisms without knowledge or experience.

Any great suggestions would be most appreciated.

My friend had the Boardman and absolutely loves it.

His is the old one though, but I know the current spec was very well reviewed by most cycling mags.

There are a lot of good bikes out there for a grand, you are best off trying them to see which suits you. I went looking and thought I knew which bike I wanted, I never give the bike I bought a thought till I rode it.

A lot of small independent bike shops will accept the Halfords c2w voucher and will let you add extra money on top to get whatever bike you want. Lots of great 2017 bikes in the sale around the 1200 mark.

I'm also looking at this price point.

One thing I've picked up, is that if the budget is less than £2K then you will get a better overall bike by going for good alloy frame so the rest of the budget gets better wheels and groupset.

Rose and Canyon do great alloy frames.

Don't forget you can use Halfords C2W at Cycle Republic as well.

This would be a decent option, with some money left over from your budget for upgraded wheels.
