Bike on car roof rack. Restricted height barrier in car park
Discussion
Yep, I did it.
Met my wife and kids at the local junior park run after a ride. My wife had parked in the car park and I loaded the bike onto the roof rack before heading off to watch my daughter do her run.
Come back, load the kids into the car and set off home. Drive out of the car park to an accompanying horrendous crunching sound. Get out, bike and roof rack are hanging off the side of the car. Roof and bike racks are totalled. My car has dents and scratches on the roof and boot lid. Bike has completely mangled levels, torn bar tape and some chunks of missing paint.
Luckily a very friendly local came to my aid with the necessary Allen keys to remove the rack and then offered to keep my bike in his garage whilst I took everyone else home and emptied the car so that I could go back and collect it.
I feel like a total f
king plum.

king plum. Yep - I 've done that too.
Coming back from a MTB ride, bike on roof, wifey calls and asks me to pop to the supermarket - I drive straight in under the hight restriction, huge dent in the roof, knackered bike carrier, bike scratched to f
k.
There was also a throng of local Barries in their barried up chav chariots to laugh at the t
t in the A8 who can't read signposts..

Change the laws like in France to allow anyone to be moved immediately off land by the Police without eviction notices. Force the Police and the Army if necessary to take action against mass traveller encampments.
Perhaps the worst example of an unnecessary height barrier I've seen is at Evans Gatwick. The entrance to the customer car park, where it isn't unreasonable to expect people to drop off bikes and/or collect them, many of whom will be using roof bars for their bikes! WTF are you supposed to do?
At the least, Evans should open the barrier during shop opening hours.

Turns out I've got accidental damage cover for the bike through my home insurance so I may be making a claim...
Still need to fork out another £300-400 to replace the roof rack and bike holders though. *Sigh*
If only I'd just stayed in bed instead of getting up at the crack of dawn and being all sporty and healthy.
