Another what new bike thread (but for 1000 or under)??
Discussion
Too many bikes out there to decide which one to go for.
I have a £1000 via cycle to work scheme. Already have a roadie (Giant TCR) but its currently out of action as it needs a few parts to get it back on the road. This used to be my daily 7 mile each way commuter.
My Boardman 29er mtb was stolen last month. My fault really as the one time I forget to bring it into the back garden from the front overnight it was taken! I started using it last summer for the commute and imho it was much safer on the roads as compared to the road bike. Bigger tyre's and disc brakes really made a huge difference.
So I need a new commuter and am thinking now of going down the cyclocross route as a good compromise between a full on mtb and a roadie. Could people suggest a good choice for 1k? Not fussed about being able to put mudguards if that helps.
Thanks in advance.

Croix de fer might be nice?

Are you looking for something racey or something a bit more comfortable?

I do like the look of cube bikes but are they any good quality wise?
If you're shortish - https://www.evanscycles.com/cannondale-caadx-105-2... looks great value at under a grand. Only 51cm and 54cm available.
Or again ,54cm, but with more of an adventure leaning - https://www.evanscycles.com/fuji-jari-1-5-2017-adv....
Both have cable discs rather than hydraulic, but look pretty good!
For carbon, hydraulic brakes and a better range of sizes, this might be unbeatable - https://www.rutlandcycling.com/bikes/road-bikes/gt...

The GT would be a great buy. Just remember if you buy a sale bike many dealers (Rutland included) will add around 10% either to the value of the complete bike, or to the voucher value.Or again ,54cm, but with more of an adventure leaning - https://www.evanscycles.com/fuji-jari-1-5-2017-adv....

Evans, Chain reaction, Wiggle and a few others don't do this.
Whilst this still makes the GT very good value it is worth bearing in mind.

I bought a Cube Cross Race Pro in October 2016 for road/bridleway commuting 13 miles each way twice a week. Now, 2,500Km later, it’s still on its original tyres, 2nd set of brake pads and only had 4 punctures. I can’t fault it, it’s brilliant. It’s even been out mountainbiking on some local trails which it dealt with admirably.
Don't know whether 28mm tyres will fit on this bike to make it pseudo gravel, but it comes with 105 11sp group set and hydraulic brakes for £895

I'm just considering the same at the moment.
I want a fast hybrid or gravel bike, but has to have hydraulic disc brakes, rack and mudguard mounts.
It looks like i need to spend £700 - £900 for a good flat bar bike, and bikes with drop bars cost just a little more than £1000
Going to pop into a local bike shop at the weekend, and chat about what they have.
