Hi all,

Does anybody else use an Apple Watch for heart rate monitoring and tracking, and a Wahoo cadence sensor on the crank?

I happen to have an Apple Watch, so have been running Strava on that since I started cycling more seriously. Recently I got a Wahoo Cadence sensor that is attached to the crank, but unless I start the ride on the Strava app on the phone, I don't seem to be able to log my cadence, let alone see it on the watch screen. So, I tried starting the ride on the phone, but then I am not able to see or even log the Apple Watch heart rate.

Is there a way around this?

I was considering getting a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt, to show heart rate and cadence on the handlebars and then sync to Strava at the end of the ride, but I don't think that the Elemnt will take the heart rate data from the Apple Watch either, unless I am mistaken? Naturally it will work with the Wahoo cadence sensor however...

Thanks,

Matt

Basically, no you can't hehe

This thread is your exact issue: https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/community/post...

This thread explains in a bit more detail: https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/community/post...

So you're up a creek because you can't attach your sensor to your watch, but your watch is stubbornly refusing to broadcast HR data. Apple are sods, aren't they??

My suggested solution would be to invest in a Wahoo TICKR HRM, which broadcasts over either BLE (Bluetooth) or ANT+, meaning you can either connect it to your new cycling computer or to your iOS Strava app.

Thank you. I had seen that before actually...

That’s a shame. It’s such a shame the Strava app can’t use the watch as as sensor, or the watch use the cadence sensor.

I was considering the TICKR too but it’s just another bit of kit to put on, not sure I can be bothered. I’ve learned that my cadence is generally pretty good so I’m happy but as an engineer working in motorsport I’m a bit of a datalogging nerd so it pains me to go without one of the feeds.

Since I was considering the elemnt I was hoping that with the Elemnt and accompanying app it might be possible to bring it all together after the ride but alas it seems not frown
