Bike shop replaced front derailleur cable after my botched bike mechanic efforts...

However, rear gear change been getting progressively worse since. Suspected potential contamination in cables from riding in rubbish weather.

Inspected bottom bracket today and found shop has put both front and rear cables through the same channel in bottom bracket. Appears at least one has shed parts of the cable covering. Suspect this to source of problem.

My view would be there are two guide channels for a reason and putting the two together will cause pressure and friction and therefore not something you’d actually do.

Before contacting shop, would this be the general consensus?

Both cables on left (bottom) channel on this photo.

One cable per guide seems obvious

Agreed. Perhaps the mechanic failed to push the new cable through the guide and just took the easy route of pairing it with the other cable.

I suggest starting your complaint with "The missus wouldn't believe me when I said it must've slipped in the wrong hole by accident..."

Not the shoddiest work I have seen come out of a bike shop, but still pretty poor.

Is it not the rear cable that is in the wrong guide? Still shoddy workmanship.

Thinking about it, I think that is correct. Hmmmmm...

ah this is a real hangover effort. But i would check that it wasn't a lowly apprentice that did the work first before going to town on them.

On the plus side that rear conti tyre has plenty more life in it.

Seen the picture on a bigger screen, the front cable should be in the top guide on your photo...
