Sorry for crappy pic.


When on the smallest cog, the cable exits the cable guide at almost 45deg. Does this lead to a rapid wear rate on the cable, or is this all wrong?

I can't see an alternative, but it just looks as if the cable is going to rapidly wear out on the cable exit.

Mine is like that also. I've had one rear cable snap after 4,000 miles - but the break was in the shifter not at the rear mech so I assume the exit angle isn't a problem. Bear in mind the tension is lightest in the smallest sprockets so presumably less strain? For peace of mind I tend to add a drop of chain oil to the cable at the exit point when I oil the chain and rear mech.

Thanks for the conformation that it's correct.

It's a s/h bike I have just acquired, I'll do a precautionary cable change and keep it lubed.
