Question about bikes and childs seats

The wife is after a retro style bike, this sort of thing:

She also wants a seat for the back for our 3yr old. Am I correct in thinking that the vast majority of the rear mounted seats will just happily attach to the rear rack? Again, this sort of thing:

With all the bike shops closed its difficult to go in and ask the experts these things.

That one does - some are designed to attach to the seat post or the top of the frame, it should tell you on the websites how they attach. I would think a rack mount would be more stable and secure but I have no evidence to base that on.
