I find that my Strava rides are more and more failing to record.

Any suggestions, please? An alternative, even if I have to pay for it.

Do you mean using the app on your phone?

Buy a Garmin / Wahoo / Hammerhead bike computer or a watch?

Depends what device you're using - if it's a phone then the issue probably isn't with Strava...

The Garmin app is pretty good if you have a Garmin.

Training peaks is pretty good too

This sounds like a hardware issue - I record on phone, watch and Wahoo and i've never had a failure.

OP, what are you using for these rides?

I use Komoot.
I'm not at all serious about cycling but I thought I'd try komoot because they had a few nice rides to try on their website.
I also use it for hiking, it has been useful for finding the way back to the car.
It's handy to have some stored maps when you're wondering 'where does this lane go?'

Road or mountain? If you are mountainbiking and have Trailforks you can record there.

It may be to do with your device rather than the strava app - I'm not very familiar with iphones but try checking app permissions, exempt the strava app from battery saver mode etc. Update the app if it needs it, I find with android strava often gets glitchy after an update until I restart the phone as well.

The strava app isnt the issue. Its a fantastic app which works for millions.

The way your phone is recording GPS data and inputting into the app is the issue, for some reason its not working.

A better way is to buy a "bike computer". This will not only record all your metrics, but also have GPS mapping. You attach it to the front of your bike.

An easy cheap one is a second hand Wahoo Bolt off ebay. £75

I use one of these
https://www.freewheel.co.uk/garmin-edge-130-plus-g...

It will record your ride, and then you can transfer it to Garmin Connect app on your phone or laptop. If you want to, you can get Connect to automatically copy it across to Strava too.

I use a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt V2, it's perfect for me.

Records rides, never had a single issue.

I use a Garmin watch for my running, and again that works perfectly.

Both sync with Strava on my phone as soon as I'm finished.

... but doesn't work wink

You can get a Garmin that will work seamlessly for around £125, or a lot less if you go second hand.

Your phone should be perfectly capable of recording your trips without the need for additional bike computers - I've only ever used my phone for this.

Suspect there is something wrong in terms of settings etc. Might be worth uninstalling and reinstalling the app?

Another vote for Komoot. Never had any issues on the platform or the app.

Doesn't have to be an expensive Garmin or Wahoo for simply recording rides. Can get a Bryton GPS cycle computer for about £60.

Thank you. I will try that.

The app used to work all the time, every time. I wonder if my fingers are getting podgier/clumsier and I am turning it off when we stop for refreshment breaks?
