I have these wheels and I want to freshen them up a bit before the summer:

I was going to replace the pawls and pawl spring as it seemed like quick, simple and cheap thing to do, I contacted Trek and they've advised me that I cannot buy the parts separately and I would need to buy a new free hub for around £100:

I know very little about Pawls and the strings, are they standard or do different brands have different shapes and sizes?
I don't mind buying a new freehub if I'm left with no other option, just seems a bit silly when I only want to replace a few small parts.

Cheapest I've seen so far is around £85 for this particular free hub, I assume I can't just pick any old 3 pawl free hub?
The current pawls seem okay but I've had slippage during the last ride which I assume is a worn cassette/chainring so I thought I would refresh the freehub at the same time to eliminate any possible issues.
Bike has done nearly 9000 miles on the original cassette/chainring so I haven't done badly (it's had a couple of chains in that time).

Trek generally use DT Swiss hubs, so you may be able to find compatible parts from them. It should be a 3 pawl set up ... you might need to remove the pawls and do some googling to identify the correct shape to get a compatible replacement. A faff but potentially cheaper than £85.
Removing pawls/springs and giving them a good clean and degrease, then ensuring the springs have enough tension to return the pawls is usually enough. I've never replaced any pawls on any bike ... just done the above and some of my hubs have probably done 15k + miles.
