Road Bike Wheel Upgrade £200/£300/£400 Suggestions Please
Discussion
Hi all. Looking for advice on the above. Currently have very heavy standard Bontragers on my Trek Domane & looking to get some extra zip with a wheel swap.
Not looking to break the bank but when I browse wheelsets they all seem expensive & a bit of a minefield. Just want a nice upgrade. I’m your typical 16 stone cog masher so need decent strength and need to be disc wheels as well.

I don't think you will get much at that price point so my advice would be to see if you can get a good used set of wheels.
Having just looked on Hunt Wheels website even their cheapest wheels are £379
Yeah that’s the problem, must be mid range wheels I thought….reality is not the case.Having just looked on Hunt Wheels website even their cheapest wheels are £379
Whilst trying to remember the name of one wheel company [1], I came across Zed who have a set on sale for £599

[1] It was Scribe but they start at £650

You could explore the world of buying direct from China from somebody like Elite, Lightcarbon or Light Bicycle which could get closer to your budget as long you don't get hit by any additional duty/taxes.
