Electric Assist
Discussion
I purchased my Trek Marlin +6 last Summer after breaking my leg and Ankle and 71 you do not heal fully. This bike has been a godsend for keeping my Cardiovascular fitness in check, and it s great for your mental health.
I have been doing a lot of the not so steep up and downhills on Cannock Chase, which is only one mile from my house, also local Canals and other soft trails. I usually do 26 miles each time I go out which is normally three days a week, plus I swim three day s a week.
I have been getting a little board with all the local rides, so this week I had a tow bar fitted and purchased a good quality carrier. So now I am ready for the good weather where I can get further afield, my thinking is Lake s Bala and Vyrnwy to start with

It's absolutely fantastic fun. I've got a CF EMTB (AMflow Carbon) and it's easy to chuck in the back of the Yeti (or obv my transit). 20Kg. I'm lucky enough to have the Quantocks within easy reach.
We end up in the dark up there until proper spring (now!). Last week, pitch black , 3 of use doing 30 plus down open grass fields with lights only. Just so much fun. Like being a kid again.

Doing soft trails is enough for me, and it’s great fun. Glad you are enjoying yourself, these Electric Assist are brilliant. We end up in the dark up there until proper spring (now!). It looks a nice set up. I believe the wheelbase can be extended on the Thule rack by sliding the black pieces down that have the tie downs on, maybe the light arrangement does as well, it did on my Thule Velocompact.? Enjoy..
Only the tyre slides extend, the lights are fixedEdited by Weejus on Wednesday 1st April 23:02
OP - you must be local to me. I’m about five minutes ride from Cannock Chase and often do Follow the Dog and occasionally The Monkey if I’m feeling brave.
I’m mid 60s, so I tend to skip some of the black sections, as I struggle a bit with drops and rock gardens. Blues and reds are enough for me. My bike (Orange Surge eMTB) is about 26kg, so great on flow trails, but not particularly nimble. I also find that I don’t bounce like I used to 30+ years ago, so I’d rather not risk falling down a collection of boulders of off the side of a skinny boardwalk.
I’m a firm believer that if I didn’t have electrical assistance, I probably wouldn’t ride at all, so it definitely helps with fitness.

Great set up just considering a Electric Mountain Bike can't decide between a Trek or a Cube , budget around £3k probably hard back. How do you find the Trek ??
I am loving the Trek, the only thing I would do different is get the Marlin 8 + it gets 30 more torque and 12 speed instead of the 9 on the 6+ also not a deal breaker the front suspension is better. Prices for the 8+ is £2800 where as the 6+ is £2100. The 6+ is specifically for light trails and commuting. glennjamin said:
