It finally happened. Cycling along lastnight about 8 miles in to my regular
25 mile jaunt on the local cycle path when i came to the junction where it
crosses a main road and has pedestrian/cycle lights.
Stopped because the traffic was heavy put my foot down pressed the button
and somehow started to keel over on the right hand side where my foot was still
clipped into the pedal.
Couldn't get my foot out totally unable to stop myself fell over just as the lights
stopped all the cars. Finally got my foot free after bashing my knee and elbow got up
smartish and took off before the lights changed hoping there was no one i knew in the
traffic queue. Didn't think this could actually happen until now what a bl**dy idiot.

Think you'll find plenty of clipless users have similar experiences. First time I rode clipless I came to a T junction at the bottom of a hill, and turned right up another hill. Unfortunately that hill was steeper than I expected and I was in the wrong gear. I could not get the b@gger to change gear, came to a grinding standstill, couldn't disengage and toppled gracefully into the hedge. Fortunately there was no-one around to see me which saved some embarrassment. Ever since I have run my pedals at almost the lowest setting.

You think that's embarrassing? I did the same thing at a feed station on the Ironman bike leg last Sunday...

Yesterday in the middle of the touristy section of san fran...at the height of rush hour. I got up so quickly that I don't think anyone noticed! And yes, I have resolved to change all of mine to the lowest tension setting.

On the road, low tension is probably what you want anyway. Its only on the rough stuff that you want the tension increased to keep you in the pedals whilst bullying the bike around. Analagous to ski bindings I suppose - you don't really want to lose a ski off piste, but on piste you'd rather the binding gave rather than your knee...
