Straw poll - what are we all rolling on?
Myself;
(freeride bike)
Panaracer Pyros'(2.25) - big mistake, terrible in the wet, high rolling resistance. Plus points, lots of grip for scrambling up rocks/through mud and no punctures ever, though this thickness comes at the disadvantage of wieght.
(XC/hack about)
WTB Moto Raptor Race {2.1 iirc) - great tyre for the money, fast, grippy and light
Anyone else care to share? Be interesting to hear opinions/see which brands are more popular

Nothing except Maxxis.
On the big bike - Currently a 2.5 highroller on the front, and a front specific 2.5 Minion, but on the rear. both dual ply supertackies. Great combo, minion on the rear is nice and progressive to drift on.
Depending on situations will swap this for either 2.5 Swampthings, or maybe a narrower 2.3 highroller front and rear. Each tyre has a different quality, the minions being the driftiest, hgihrollers best all round but slightly twitchy, swampthings good in sticky mud but garbage rolling resistance.
On the Hardtail, 2.3 Hansventures, or a 2.1 Highroller with the single ply casing.
Self confessed mtb tyre geek.

Maxxis Larsen TT on the rear - great for the dry, sandy conditions here. Have just bought my fourth in two years.
Hutchinson Python on the front - good central spine for low rolling resistance and small knobbles for the dry.
Have used Geax (can't remember the model) but found it lacking in grip and wearing out very fast. Have just ordered a WTB Werewolf for boggier days, and have found the Velociraptor to be a great budget tyre too.

Currently running Panaracer Fire XC 2.1 on the front and Panaracer Cinder 2.1 on the back, both kevlar beaded.
The Cinder is great, much better on the slimey stuff than the WTB Velociraptors I usually run.
Still unconvinced about the mud-plugging ability of the Fire, though; its great in the dry or soft, but wet mud clogs it in no time and it then refuses to run in a straight line

had a bighit up to this last tuesday. during the dry(ish) months I've been running a 2.5 Maxxis High roller super tacky on the front, and a 24" 2.7 High roller out back.
now though, just nuilt up a demo 8, so im back on full 26 hoops. running hard 2.5 high rollers during the wet months, then reverting to all round 2.5 super tackies in the summer! crackin tyres!

Not the best time of year to be using slicks but i'm gonna attempt to use my Michelin XC road tyres on my mtb.
If you haven't seen them they look very much like an inner tube
My bike was in bits ready to be made into a hybrid but it wasn't as straight forward as i'd hoped...and I am getting fed up with taking 1/2 hour to do a 3 mile commute.
Any suggestions for a narrow/ish tyre that's safe enough for early morning road riding this winter?

Just ordered myself a pair of Panaracer Trailblasters- got a good price and I've heard some good things about them but we shall see. Currently running Hutchinson Chamleons.
I'd be interested in your findings; I nearly bought some but was put off by rumours of less than top-notch performance in the wet. They're supposed to rock in the dry, though.
