I've just started seeing a stunning girl who's into serious road biking. I've only ever done MTB so don't have a clue about roadies. Can anyone point me in the direction of the benchmark best bike for this? Up to 2/3k RRP, so I can get a used example for 1/1.5k. Who are the key players? The only nugget of info I have is campag are the group to have. Cheers...
Thanks, although I'm just researching at the mo, what with winter around the corner. I plan to use my mtb with my spare slick roadie wheel and trainer for the winter months. Next spring will be an ideal time for my roadie purchase.
I had a peep on ebay and saw a few example; BP, colnago, s-works, trek - all carbon lovelies.

Oh I can see this being a fiesty relationship!
On the other hand some (OK - very few!) roadies do look like this...

Click on the 1st pic on 3rd row down: Lynn Gaggioli, US based Road Racer.
Just remember to smile when you're on the road - I see swarms of roadies every weekend, all on fantastic bikes, but they all look like they're doing it for punishment. I'm sure their all saying "Oh no, only another 100 miles to go then I can have something to drink." Or something like that.
It supposed to be fun, dammit!!!

Planet-X Chrono, the one in the pic, is obsolete, replaced by the Stealth Pro-Carbon:
which is indeed a TT/triathlon machine.
It's the same Planet-X that made its name with no-nonsense MB and BMX bits - they also do a lot of cyclo-cross kit - but their road bike is the Superlight, also available in carbon:
I'm looking at a Stealth - but I'm also looking at a supercharged motor for the Scimitar, and my wife's finances will only stretch so far...

Roman, thanks for the links. Some of those girls are not too shabby at all. However the girl I'm seeing put's them in the shade

I am so happy for you. You lucky s*d.
Over 15yrs of cycling and every single girl friend has been slow and found cycling simply painful. Are you supposed to slow down & use the little ring or something?
Funny thread!!! :-) Some of those bikes are ridiculous for what you need to be honest.
A lot will depend on what you intend to use it for, your build, fitness and what else you do.
Campagnolo aren't the only decent set as top end Shimano are awesome too. I'd suggest concentrating on the frame at £1-1.5k with a full 105 or Ultegra setup.
Focus and Planet-X are good independently built bikes.
Specialized do a nice Roubaix bike which is a fine roadie but also comfy.
Trek Madone bikes are well recommended.
Either go to roadcyclinguk forum (which I post on) and ask their or answer:
1. What distance?
2. How often?
3. What type of riding (commuting too? just weekends?)
4. Your average speed when riding
5. height/weight
6. Other sports you do
And I'll recommend some nice one's for you.... just remember though.... just like plebs that buy a Ducati to square off the tyre or ferrari drivers who do 500 miles a year at 30mph - you'll look a mug riding £1500 of full carbon trick bike and then cycling like a muppet :-)
